Tuesday Briefing: New CCO at Georgia World Congress Center

A big executive appointment for the Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA), a new class of CMM recipients and a new Texas meeting venue are the three meetings and events industry headlines to keep an eye on today.

Joe Bocherer has joined the GWCCA team as the organization’s new chief commercial officer, where he will oversee all sales and marketing, business development, customer analysis and revenue management operations. 

Bocherer most recently served as head of sales and marketing for InterContinental Hotels Group’s U.S. franchise division, and he has also held positions as VP sales for Experience Columbus (Ohio), corporate director of sales and marketing for White Lodging, and other key positions with Hyatt Hotels

The CCO is a new role for the GWCCA, created as part of the first phase of a strategic reorganization plan. That plan comes following the opening of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, decommissioning of the Georgia Dome, and major enhancements to Centennial Olympic Park and the Georgia World Congress Center.

MPI, GBTA Recognize New Class of CMM Recipients

Congratulations to the new 2016 class of the Certificate in Meeting Management (CMM) program from Meeting Professionals International (MPI) and Global Business Travel Association (GBTA). MPI and GBTA are now accepting applications for the upcoming CMM Reno/Tahoe Program, scheduled for December 1 - 4, at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort in Incline Village, Nevada. The registration deadline is November 1, and the class is limited to 50 participants.

New Texas Meeting Venue: DoubleTree by Hilton Arlington DFW South

DoubleTree by Hilton has opened its first property in the Dallas suburb of Arlington, the eighth for the brand in the Dallas area. 

The 237-room hotel has over 6,000 square feet of flexible meeting space, offering the ability to host events for up to 250 guests. Event facilities have a sound system, LCD projectors and other A/V equipment, and high-speed Internet. 

The hotel also has a lobby Connectivity Zone for socializing or networking, The Brass Spur Bar & Grill serving American regional cuisine, an outdoor pool, complimentary fitness center, complimentary 24-hour business center and a complimentary roundtrip shuttle to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. Guest rooms have complimentary Wi-Fi, a 40-inch HDTV, mini-refrigerator, coffeemaker and workspace; and many provide a pool view, patio or balcony.
