Ritz-Carlton Hotel to Bring New Meeting Space to St. Lucia

St. Lucia is getting a new Ritz-Carlton hotel. According to an announcement by the company, the new luxury property will have “ample” meeting and group space in both indoor and outdoor venues.

Ritz-Carlton, part of Marriott International, signed a management agreement with Range Developments to open the new, 180-room Ritz-Carlton St. Lucia in 2021 on the southern tip of the island, on the Caribbean southwest coast.

Not only will the hotel be within easy reach of Hewanorra International Airport – which has seen increased airlift catering to luxury travelers in recent years – it also will be in close proximity to the famous twin volcanoes known as the “Pitons.” The Pitons are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Among the hotel’s many amenities will be multiple dining facilities, all with outdoor seating; a spa that includes an outdoor treatment area; and several swimming pools, including one that will be designated as a quiet relaxation area only for adults.

The Ritz-Carlton, St. Lucia is the anchor of a larger development project led by Range Developments, a multi-phase project currently titled the “Black Bay Master Development," set on a total of 180 acres. The project will be developed under the country’s Citizenship-by-Investment program.

The Ritz-Carlton, St. Lucia will be designed and built to the highest standards. The project is estimated to create about 500 jobs on the island during construction, with a similar amount once the hotel is operational.

“We are delighted to see this first step in what will be a major project on the southern tip of the island,” said Allen Chastanet, the prime minister of St. Lucia, in a written statement. “We have maintained that our focus is on enhancing our tourism offerings and we are committed to ensuring sustainable investment and employment in Saint Lucia and particularly in the south. I am elated that we have such eminent partners in this project in what is surely going to be one of the best resorts in the Caribbean.”

“Summer Snow Globe” Venue Opens in DC-area National Harbor

This August, National Harbor in the Washington, DC, area and Peterson Companies will introduce Harbor Dome, a new and unique special events venue. The geodesic structure launches Friday, August 18 as Harbor Dome: Summer Snow Globe. The one-of-a-kind construction will accommodate 500 inside, and an additional 300 outside, with a lineup of dynamic programming including craft cocktails, live music and real snow.

The initial iteration of the Harbor Dome will aim to give guests a welcome respite from the summer heat. The fully functional snow globe will operate as a bar and lounge with nightly entertainment. It will be decorated in an icy white and silver color palette with multiple bars and sleek lounge seating inside. The temperature will be kept at 64 degrees, and regular dustings of snow will fall from the ceiling to realistically simulate winter in August. Visitors looking to cool down this summer will find a selection of specially created cocktails and an exciting musical lineup featuring recognized bands and DJs. Those who find it too chilly inside can step out and continue to enjoy food, drinks and even play a round of snowball cornhole on the accompanying lawn while they thaw.

“The space offers us an opportunity to showcase the different ways in which we can produce special events,” said Rachel Ball, director of events and business development for National Harbor, in a written release. “We look forward to activating Harbor Dome throughout the year with exciting, surprising programming and think Summer Snow Globe is the perfect way to kick it off.”

Harbor Dome: Summer Snow Globe will open to the public for twelve days only, from August 18 through September 4. The venue is a 21 and over space, and regular admission is $10.00. Admission to highlighted live music events is $25 and tickets can be pre-purchased at Eventbrite.
