Supplier News: Private Island Buyout in Venice, a New Netherlands Hotel for ALHI

There have been a number of new hotel and personnel updates this week in supplier news affecting the meetings and events industry.

Meeting Planners Can Buy Out JW Marriott Venice’s Private Island

Following its annual closure in November, meeting planners can book JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa’s private island. 

The island of Isola delle Rose, which offers more than 11,000 square feet of meeting and event space, will be available for booking in the beginning of March, before the resort opens on March 16, and until the end of November following its closure November 4. 

Looking back on the year, the property hosted a number of notable events throughout the 2017 season. In celebration of the Venice Biennale renowned art festival, the Italian coffee roasting company, Illy, hosted their 25th anniversary in partnership with JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa. The resort also held exclusive events in collaboration with Netflix, for the International Venice Film Festival, as well as L'Oreal, CK Watches, Porsche, and Audi.

Reflective of its natural surrounding landscape, the meetings and events space includes: expanded Venezia Ballroom in the conference center, with availability to host up to 380 participants; nine meeting rooms; lush gardens for outdoor receptions; and a historical church for high culture meetings or refined gala dinners. For intimate and smaller open-air meetings or events, the resort offers private terraces and a century old park with over 100 olive trees. The resort's Michelin-starred chef Frederico Belluco is also available upon request to cater meetings and events. Furthermore, professionals utilizing the meetings and events space will have direct access to private docks and boats for carrying material in preparation of the event or transporting participants to and from the Venice city center. Through the resort's MICE special offer, rates for special events start at $246 (€210) per night, and are valid during March, April, October, and November.

JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa will reopen for the 2018 season on March 16.

ALHI Adds Global Sales Manager in Minnesota

Associated Luxury Hotels International (ALHI) has expanded its Global Sales team in the U.S. Midwest with the addition of Michelle Russell as Global Sales Manager. Based in ALHI’s new Global Sales office in Minnesota, she assists meeting professionals, association executives, incentive specialists and business executives across the United States who are interested in conducting meetings, conventions and/or incentive programs at any of ALHI’s member hotels and resorts.

Russell brings more than 25 years of experience in the luxury meetings and incentive sector to her new position. Prior to joining ALHI she was Vice President, Global Accounts for HPN Global. Previous to that, she was with Hyatt Hotels Corporation, which includes serving Hyatt Global Sales for three years as Director, Strategic Accounts and for seven years as Director, Account Development. Her tenure with the company also includes serving as Director of National Sales for Hyatt’s Western Global Sales team, and as Sales Manager for Hyatt Regency Cambridge in Massachusetts. Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin in the Netherlands Joins ALHI

In other news from ALHI, the global sales organization has expanded its worldwide portfolio and Western Europe options with the addition of the Netherlands’ Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin in Noordwijk, just outside Amsterdam. Located directly on the beach, in the province of South Holland, the hotel provides views of the North Sea

ALHI now represents the 254-room hotel to the European and North American meetings, conventions and incentive market, according to ALHI’s Chief Sales Officer Mark Sergot.

The Grand Hotel Huis Ter Duin is a family-owned luxury property with 254 guest rooms, which includes 20 suites and four penthouses. Along with its own private beach, the hotel also has 19 meeting rooms, with a total of 2,650 square meters of meeting space, making it possible to accommodate up to 1,500 guests. Plus, the hotel offers the MC Wellness spa, an indoor pool, free Wi-Fi and a wide selection of dining outlets, including Restaurant Latour, Breakers Beach House, and Brasserie La Terrasse.
