Supplier News: Openings, Renos and Perks for Planners




This week's supplier news in the meetings and events industry runs the gamut from new hotel openings to renovations to special offers for meeting planners.

New W Xi’an Has 43K Square Feet of Event Space

W Hotels Worldwide, part of Marriott International, has announced the opening of W Xi'an, the brand’s seventh hotel in Greater China and the largest W to open in Asia Pacific

The new, 385-room property has over 43,000 square feet of event space with advanced audio-visual facilities. The Great Room, at 25,000 square feet, can accommodate up to 1,000 guests in a space with high ceilings and chandeliers, making it one of the largest hotel ballrooms in town, W Hotels said. 

The accommodations have large-scale artworks in the style of the Tang dynasty, with a modern twist from ATG Beyond. Each guestroom also has a spacious balcony, which each private terrace linked to a mini bar. The top-tier Extreme WOW Suite has corrugated walls in a deep orange-red, which aims to embody the energy of the Silk Road

Dining venues include Wei, the all-day dining restaurant with a show kithcen, which infuses local cuisine with international favorites under an eye-catching giant satin vortex embedded in the ceiling. Yen, the hotel’s signature restaurant, has 11 separate rooms with Tang dynasty accents, and is a showcase of Cantonese fine dining and Dim Sum. FU serves up hotpots, providing guests with an interactive interpretation of the redefined traditional dish. With views of Quijiang, WOOBAR transforms from a laid-back hangout by day to a stylish lounge by night, seating guests with easy access to the dance floor and serving up both a global selection of spirits and a curated take on afternoon tea.

Guests can de-stress at the indoor WET swimming pool and outdoor WETDeck. A digital screen at the end of the WET pool allows for events to have projected graphics and the ability to host on-water fashion shows.

The 24-hour FIT gym has a range of equipment. Guests can also choose to relax at the AWAY Spa, which has five treatment rooms, two rooms for manicure-pedicures, a hair salon, and two makeup rooms.

Meeting Space Reno at Naples Grande Beach Resort

Naples Grande Beach Resort, an independent luxury hotel in southwest Florida, has announced a $3 million renovation to its meeting and event spaces. 

Debuting September 23, the resort’s ballroom level will receive head-to-toe enhancements to its design and facilities, including new technology upgrades and a coastal-inspired design in blue, green and neutral tones. Designed in partnership with Verve Collaborative, these renovations will be the latest set of changes to the resort following its multi-million-dollar renovation post-Hurricane Irma.

The 474-room resort is situated on 23 waterfront acres, adjoined by a 200-acre nature preserve. Offering 83,000 square feet of flexible indoor and outdoor space, the venues can serve tradeshows, product launches or weddings. Accompanied by scenic outdoor settings, the resort’s enhanced indoor spaces reflect Naples Grande Beach Resort’s reimagined look and feel.

Technology upgrades include the addition of three resort-wide digital reader boards highlighting the day’s events, wayfinding maps, and daily local weather among other useful information for guests to refer to. Digital signage will be added outside of each meeting room, creating a seamless way to communicate event details to all attendees. An all new Lutron (LED) lighting system will be added to the Royal Palm Ballroom, the Orchid Ballroom, and their pre-function areas. Additionally, the resort’s in-house A/V company, PSAV, is upgrading its portable microphone system for improved output. The installation of additional access points will also provide increased Wi-Fi coverage on the ballroom level, and cell phone charging stations will be added in the main foyer.

The resort’s largest function space, the Royal Palm Ballroom, can accommodate up to 1,660 guests reception style, 1,200 guests with banquet set up and 900 people for a classroom or meeting set with 17-foot ceilings and a new lighting design. This ballroom has 14,442 square feet of space that can be divided into eight separate meeting rooms; all ballroom and breakout room airwalls will have upgraded fabrics designs on the wallcoverings plus new track and trolley systems to operate. Royal Palm and Orchid Foyers will have custom lighting, new furniture, and large-scale wall art installations that will create a picture-perfect backdrop for upscale cocktail receptions.

A good fit for breakout sessions, intimate meetings and presentations, the Orchid Ballroom is a contemporary-style conference facility with 6,435 square feet of space that comfortably seats up to 740 guests and is divisible into four sections. As the second largest space on property, this ballroom will have a new design including chandeliers and sandy beige tones.

In addition to Naples Grande Beach Resort’s ballroom spaces, its adjacent breakout rooms, including the Acacia’s, Hibiscus, Mangrove, Banyan and Cypress rooms, are receiving renovations. Located just outside Royal Palm Ballroom, the breakout room interiors will complement the larger event spaces, and vary in size and dimensions, specifically designed to fit smaller group needs and sizes. Seagrape boardroom will come fitted with a conference desk and mounted television to conduct interviews or formal business meetings. The built-in registration desk will also receive a facelift to its alcove with a redesigned window partition, molding, and fresh paint.

Featuring natural light through floor to ceiling windows, Vista Ballroom is one of the property’s most scenic spaces, offering 5,802 square feet of space, with capabilities for up to 500 people with a reception or auditorium set-up, up to 400 banquet style and up to 260 for a classroom set-up. Preemptively renovated with the design being spread to the rest of the resort’s function space this ballroom, a popular choice for group dinner receptions, social events and weddings, is adjoined by Vista Terrace and Sunset Veranda, allowing for an easy flow from outdoor cocktail hour into an indoor dinner reception.

Additional outdoor venues include Vista Terrace, an outdoor event space with over 2,100 square feet of space with capacity for up to 250 guests, overlooking the resort’s Mangrove Pool. Located steps away, also overlooking the Mangrove Pool, is the Sunset Veranda, a covered event space, which can host receptions for up to 500 people.

Meeting Planner Perks at Miami’s Gates Hotel South Beach

The Gates Hotel South Beach, a hotel blocks from the Miami Convention Center in Miami Beach, has announced a number of new offers for meeting planners. 

The following perks are available for groups booked through September 30 for travel through April 30, 2019:

Book 20-29 rooms per night — select 2 perks

The 235-room Gates Hotel can accommodate group rooms blocks of up to 75, and for meetings, the largest configuration equates to 1,339 sq. ft. and is equipped to hold 36 guests. Alternatively, 2,200+ sq. ft. is available between all three rooms.
