Supplier News: New Event Hotels From Marriott, Westin

From new event hotels across the U.S. to some last-minute fall meeting deals, here’s the top supplier news to watch this week. 

Courtyard by Marriott Schenectady at Mohawk Harbor to Open October 20

In event hotel news, Schenectady, NY, is getting a new Courtyard by Marriott hotel with the opening of the Courtyard by Marriott Schenectady at Mohawk Harbor October 20. 

The 124-room hotel will have 1,157 square feet of meeting space to accommodate functions of up to 100 people, as well as guest rooms with hybrid zones for working, sleeping, relaxing and getting ready, including a "Luggage Drop” to store bags and a “Tech Drop” where guests can plug in personal electronic devices. Additionally, a light desk on wheels allows guests to work anywhere in the room. 

In the lobby, guests can enjoy open seating, media pods, and complimentary Wi-Fi, as well as The Bistro – Eat. Drink. Connect for light evening fare, including snacks, cocktails, wine and beer. There is also a business library with several computer terminals, as well as a printer and separate computer stations dedicated solely to printing airline boarding passes and checking flight status. Other amenities include an indoor swimming pool, an outdoor fire pit, a fitness center and guest laundry. 

Big Renovation at Marriott North Charleston

In South Carolina, the Marriott North Charleston just took the wraps off a big, business-friendly renovation project, The Charleston Post Courier reports. 

The 291-room hotel now has a new look heavy on modern design elements like wood and stone. Guests can now check in via smart phone, and soon the hotel plans to add the ability to use phones to open door locks. For meetings and events, the hotel has two ballrooms, the largest of which has the capacity for 750 people in theatre-style seating and 450 people for a seated banquet, as well as six breakout rooms. The smaller ballroom is centered on a reflecting pool.

The Residence Inn by Marriott West Orange in New Jersey is looking ahead to 2017 with three new group-geared packages. 

Planners who book the Meet and Thrive package receive a five percent room rate discount for groups of 10 or more rooms. In addition, they earn 2,000 additional Marriott Reward Points and a complimentary AM/PM Coffee Break. This offer is valid on stays January 1, 2017, through December 31, 2017.

Groups of 10-25 can receive a $100 credit voucher for booking a meeting as well as a free welcome amenity for each attendee. The offer is available from January 1, 2017, through April 1, 2017, and rates start at $169/night plus 15 percent tax.

Finally, wedding couples can get a complimentary bridal suite when booking a rehearsal dinner and block of rooms for their guests. Available from January 1, 2017, through April 1, 2017, rates start at $169/night plus 15 percent tax.

The 128-room all-suite hotel is 20 minutes from Manhattan and near the wedding venues, country clubs, shops, historic sights and spas of Essex County. All accommodations have with fully equipped kitchens and a complimentary grocery shopping service, as well as daily complimentary breakfast, complimentary Wi-Fi, Harry’s Bar for drinks and billiards, and dining next door at The Manor. In addition, “The Mix” is an evening social held every Monday through Wednesday in the hotel lobby, serving complimentary beer and wine.

The Westin Nashville Opens With 20,000 Square Feet of Event Space

Nashville has a new luxury hotel with a substantial meeting space offering. The Westin Nashville just opened with 20,000 square feet of adaptable event space, including pre-function areas and 12 meeting venues. The Vanderbilt Ballroom offers reception seating for up to 500 guests. 

The hotel also has 453 guest rooms with custom artwork and design details inspired by the city and region, including three penthouse-style entertainment suites, three hospitality suites and eight executive suites. Other amenities include Decker & Dyer, a restaurant inspired by Vauxhall Gardens, a social gathering spot for 1800’s-era Nashville, a fitness center, indoor swimming pool and Westin Hotel’s New Balance Gear lending program. Later this fall, two restaurants will open: the L27 Rooftop Bar, billed as the highest rooftop bar in the region, and the Oak Steakhouse Nashville adjacent to the hotel. Also on tap for this fall is the Rhapsody Spa, which will offer nine treatment rooms, including a couple’s treatment room, three manicure/pedicure stations and a shared sauna. 

Hotel 50 Bowery From Joie de Vivre Hotels

Hotel 50 Bowery, the first property for Joie de Vivre Hotels in New York City, is set to open this winter in Chinatown with a 5,000 square foot outdoor event space, the Atlantic Garden, named after the historic beer hall that occupied the site in the 1850s. The hotel will also have 1,900 square feet of indoor function space, with events catered by Chef Dale Talde. The Gallery, Boardroom and five suites will offer natural light, city views and modern furnishings for meetings and events.

The hotel’s 229 guest rooms will display artwork by local artists Lowell Boyers, Simone Shubuck and André Saraiva, and all rooms above the ninth floor will offer views of Lower Manhattan. The hotel will also have outdoor publicspaces on the second floor and rooftop. The Gallery, a permanent exhibit from the Museum of Chinese in America, will offer insights into the local area’s history from resident curator Herb Tam.

The three dining outlets by Chef Dale Talde will include a 220-seat, contemporary Asian restaurant, Rice & Gold, which will be located on the lobby level; Goldie’s, a cellar-level lounge serving dim-sum-style bites with live entertainment inspired by its opium-den theme; and a 21st-floor rooftop bar, named [email protected], which boasts sweeping views of the skyline. Talde has been a three-time cheftestant on Bravo’s Top Chef and released his first cookbook, Asian-American, in 2015. 

New Meeting Space at Playa del Carmen's Mahekal Beach Resort

Fresh off a $16 million renovation, Mahekal Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen has added 4,500 square feet of versatile meeting and event space, complementing the property’s 12,800 square feet of existing meeting space. 

New enhancements include the “Celebre” space, which is just steps from the beach and offers beach views and space for meetings and incentive retreats for up to 290 total guests. The new space aims to embody a bohemian coastal-chic design, with natural tones and a thatched roof. 

Mahekal has the only event space in Playa del Carmen located on the region’s longest stretch of beach, with proximity to the shops, bars and restaurants on Fifth Avenue, as well as 196 palapa-style bungalow accommodations, an on-property dive center, pottery painting classes with local artisans, Mayan Culinary Casita, Revive Spa and fitness center, four swimming pools, five restaurants and bars and more.

Last-Minute Fall Meeting Offer at Castelfalfi

CMI Inks Deal With Cendyn

Cain Meetings & Incentives (CMI) and Cendyn have signed a new agreement that will see CMI use the MetronXpress application. 

Cendyn says the deal will help CMI enhance its events technology and operational intelligence. MetronXpress is a Cendyn/EVENTS application that offers meetings management components aimed at helping companies effectively plan, source, manage and measure the event life cycle, as well as achieve compliance and track spending. The app will allow CMI to streamline its internal processes and focus more attention on delivering meeting and incentive travel experiences. 

MetronXpress has a dashboard where planners can create events, source venues through a global directory and manage event delivery. The application also generates real time operational intelligence and KPIs with in-depth reporting.
