A number of new and upcoming event spaces are on the docket this week in the meetings and events industry.

Hard Rock to Open Resort Near Davos Convention Center

Hard Rock International has announced plans to open a new resort near the convention center in Davos, marking the company’s first property in Switzerland

Hard Rock Hotel Davos, set to open this December, will be situated in the heart of the town, providing easy access to popular attractions. The property is positioned close to the train station, which is easily accessible from Zurich, and also provides guests convenient access to nearby boutiques and dining options. The hotel is also within walking distance of ski lifts and museums, as well as the city’s convention center, golf course, and the Vaillant Arena, home to the professional Swiss ice hockey club, Hockey Club Davos, and where the Spengler Cup is played every year.

Catering to both business and leisure travelers, Hard Rock Hotel Davos will have 111 redesigned rooms, including 31 serviced one to three bedroom apartments. In addition to three conference rooms for dynamic meeting space, an on-site, historic chapel will also be available for booking, containing a modern sound system, natural acoustics, fully functioning organ and adaptable lighting, ideal for banquets, weddings, private concerts and events. For those looking to hit the slopes, the hotel will also offer guests a ski room where they can store equipment and gear.

Food and beverage options will be available on-site, such as an existing three-meal restaurant, a local hot spot complete with a picturesque terrace located on the first floor. The restaurant will also provide a high-end lobby bar and sophisticated private bar, perfect for private dining and tastings. The hotel will also offer an exclusive rooftop bar, providing the only spot for 360-degree views of the mountains and city.

In true Hard Rock style, the hotel will have an array of signature brand offerings and amenities, including The Sound of Your Stay music amenity program, allowing guests to set the mood with complimentary vinyl players and records or rock out on a Fender guitar during an in-room jam session, complete with an amp and head phones. Additionally, the property will boast a wellness center, including a Body Rock workout facility and a Rock Spa, complete with the music-infused Rhythm & Motion spa menu, five treatment rooms and a yoga studio.

New Park MGM to Have Space for 5,000 Attendees

MGM Resorts International and New York-based Sydell Group have announced big plans for event spaces at the new Park MGM, the rebranded and transformed Monte Carlo Resort and Casino set to debut in Las Vegas

“Innovative non-traditional spaces and flexible design” will allow Park MGM to facilitate small groups, with the potential for hosting 5,000 people, according to a written release.

The conference space will have expansive ballrooms, flexible meeting places and an outdoor terrace. A highlight will be the city’s first Executive Meeting Center (EMC) and Ideation Labs, “meeting areas designed to maximize productivity for small groups.” Park MGM will also have an installation of the Stay Well program, a wellness meetings experience.

Other amenities of the 77,000-square-foot meetings space include: the 30,000-square-foot Park Theater, numerous restaurants, and a pool environment. The main conference space will be completed in October 2017 with the introduction of the Executive Meeting Center and Ideation Labs in early 2018.

For those wanting private outdoor meeting space, the 4,345-square-foot Central Park Terrace will provide the ideal setting.

Also part of the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino transformation will be the addition of Sydell’s NoMad Hotel. In addition to fully redesigned guest rooms, each hotel will have food & beverage experiences unique to the Las Vegas market. Highlights include the award-winning NoMad restaurant by Chef Daniel Humm and restaurateur Will Guidara; Primrose, a new concept with Bryce Shuman at the helm; Eataly, an Italian marketplace, and more.

San Marcos’ St. Mark Golf Club Adds Event Space

Planners looking to book an event for golf lovers may want to check out the St. Mark Golf Club at Lakehouse Hotel & Resort in San Marcos, CA, which just wrapped a $5 million renovation. 

The reimagination includes a new casual restaurant, pro shop, and meeting and event space. There is now over 3,500 square feet of event space suitable for weddings, social events, private get-togethers, and corporate meetings. The versatile space can easily be transformed for different types of events.

The course and golf club are managed by Eat.Drink.Sleep, who own and manage other notable restaurants, hotels, and entertainment properties including Tower23 Hotel, JRDN restaurant, Draft, Cannonball, and Belmont Park. The club’s restaurant, The Grill, is now a counter service dining concept with new menu items like panko-breaded Snap Crackle Shrimp, the Crosby Cobb Salad, named after pro golfer Nathaniel Crosby, and the Go for the Green Burger. There is also a selection of over 40 craft brews on tap in The Grill’s new interior that complements vast views of the course’s greenery.

Before a round on the greens, golfers can make their way to the redesigned Pro Shop, which is stocked with the latest in golf attire and gear, and has an in-shop beer bar with 35 can selections at the ready. In addition to the Pro Shop upgrades, new course equipment and signage have been set in place to improve the overall playing experience. Plans for golf school and junior golf camps are also in development.

The property has also hired a new Director of Instruction, Lee Sanudo. Born and raised in San Diego, Sanudo has been involved in the sport for over 27 years and is a Class A PGA Teaching Professional. His father Cesar Sanudo, a renowned PGA TOUR champion and Teaching Professional, introduced him to the sport. Sanudo grew up learning the game from golf Hall of Famers like Lee Trevino, Fred Couples, and Dave Stockton to name a few. Following in his father’s footsteps, he soon became an accomplished player and talented instructor. Sanudo provides guests with the tools necessary to achieve their golf game goals, regardless of skill level.

Additional enhancements are set to be unveiled in the fall of 2017 and include new golf cart pathways, upgraded guest locker rooms and restrooms, the expansion of an instructional program, and more.
