New announcements from Cvent’s CONNECT conference and a number of major hotel openings lead this week’s supplier news in the meetings and events industry.

Cvent Launches Web Design Tool for Meeting Planners at CONNECT

At their annual customer conference, Cvent CONNECT, Cvent, Inc., announced Cvent Flex, a new way for event planners to build, design and manage their event websites and registration process. Cvent Flex is billed as a complete re-envisioning of the way users interact with a website design platform, with a site construction that aims to make the website creation process effortless and enjoyable for planners who might not have a background or extensive experience in web design. 

Cvent Flex contains a number of enhancements that simplify the website creation experience in the following areas:

  • Build: The widget-based, drag and drop interface makes it easy to generate and place content, with all the necessary tools in one place, Cvent said. Live preview functionality eliminates the guesswork and provides constant visual feedback along the way.
  • Design: Planners now have more freedom to create event sites that match their brand and image. The site designer lets planners easily change any styling element, including typography, borders, backgrounds and more.
  • Registration Management: With full control over the registration process, planners can customize the registration path based on their business or industry needs. Registration can be as simple as a one-page form, or it can be built to accommodate multiple attendee types and profiles.
  • Experience: Cvent Flex builds on extensive user research to provide both the planner and the event attendee with an enjoyable experience, whether creating the site on the back-end or navigating the attendee-facing event site, Cvent said.

“The event website is often the first interaction attendees have with an event, long before they arrive on-site,” said David Quattrone, chief technology officer for Cvent, in a written release. “Ensuring that the website is easy to use and aligns with the brand’s image reflects well on the organization and the event, in addition to informing and exciting the attendee.”

Cvent Flex is available now through an early adopter program, and will be made available to all Cvent customers over the course of the next year.

Cvent Announces Plannie Awards Winners at CONNECT Conference

Event technology company Cvent, Inc. has announced the winners of its fifth annual Plannie Awards at the company’s annual conference, Cvent CONNECT. The awards recognize professionals from top organizations, including Fortune 500 brands, who have transformed their meetings and events utilizing the Cvent platform. Selected from hundreds of submissions, the winners exemplify the best in the industry, Cvent said.

This year’s Plannie Awards include 10 categories that reflect a wide range of the meeting and event planning lifecycle. The winners were announced at a live ceremony at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, which included performances by Cirque du Soleil.

The Albus Amsterdam Becomes First Carbon-Neutral Hotel in Europe

The Albus in Amsterdam has opened as the first completely carbon-neutral hotel in Europe. Its Mitsubishi Electric system cools and heats all of the rooms without any carbon emissions; it is also possible to heat the hotel’s tap water up to a maximum of 90 degrees in a sustainable manner. Furthermore, the hotel’s water is heated to more than 70 degrees in a sustainable manner. By 2025, Amsterdam as a whole intends to achieve a 40 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, and the city has expressed the intention to be fully carbon-neutral by 2050. This is also an ambition the national government has recently stated.

“We are proud to be the first hotel in Europe that operates without any CO2 emissions,” Taco van der Meer, owner of the 4-star superior design hotel said in a written release. “We chose to install a sustainable system for the heating and cooling of the rooms and for the hot water supply for the entire hotel. The system provides 30 to 40 percent energy savings when compared to the gas-powered central heating and hot water system we have replaced.’

The Albus worked with various parties during the installation of the new system. Mitsubishi Electric supplied the VRF (Variable Refrigant Flow) system for cooling/heating for the 75 guestrooms and the CO2 heat pump QAHV for the hot tap water. In addition, The Albus worked with Rijnen Engineering, Scholten Totaalprojecten and Homanser for advice and installation. The entire project required the investment of approximately € 1,400 (Approximately $1,567). The investment is estimated to be paid back within eight years due to lower energy bills.

Work for the project officially began this past December. The hotel also meets the Paris Climate Agreement’s requirements.

Hard Rock to Open Daytona Beach Hotel With 20k Square Feet of Meeting Space

Hard Rock International has announced plans to open its fourth property in Florida in Daytona Beach, bringing 20,000 additional square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space to the destination. 

The 200-key beachfront Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach will offer a number of music-themed amenities. It will be developed in collaboration with Summit Hospitality Management Group and managed by Hard Rock International.

True to the Hard Rock brand, the property will have brand exclusive offerings including a Body Rock workout facility, and a Rock Spa complete with the music-infused Rhythm & Motion spa menu, six treatment rooms, a manicure/pedicure station and poolside cabanas with spa services. In the lobby, the Rock Shop will sell Hard Rock’s merchandise. Keeping families in mind, young rockers can hang out in the brand’s signature hotspot, the Hard Rock Roxity Kids Club. Additionally, the property will have The Sound of Your Stay music amenity program, allowing guests to unleash their inner rock star through amenities like a complimentary vinyl player and records or an in-room jam session with a Fender guitar.

Catering to the unique needs of business and leisure travelers, Hard Rock Hotel Daytona Beach will provide 20,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, including bright meeting rooms with views of the Atlantic Ocean and an open-air terrace.

Additional amenities include all-day dining, 24-hour in-room dining, a grab-and-go coffee shop and a poolside bar and grill. The beachfront property will include an expansive swimming pool and deck, offering guests panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to the hotel’s beachfront activities, guests will enjoy nearby outdoor experiences, ranging from paddle boarding on the Halifax River to deep-sea fishing out of the Ponce de Leon Inlet.
