Supplier News: Aloft’s Second Seoul Hotel, Suncadia’s New Groups Offerings




A new boutique venue in South Korea and unusual incentive activities in the Pacific Northwest of the United States lead this week’s supplier news in the meetings and events industry.

The new Aloft Seoul Myeongdong has 169 square meters of versatile space with A/V equipment. For collaboration, the Tactic meeting spaces can be divided into two separate rooms. The Balios banquet rooms can also host business and social functions.

The new hotel also has 223 loft-inspired guestrooms, each with nine-foot ceilings and signature brand amenities, such as platform beds, walk-in rain showers, 43" LCD TVs, and fast and free Wi-Fi throughout the property.

For dining options, the hotel has NOOK, an all-day dining restaurant with freshly cooked all-you-can-eat breakfast, and Re:fuel by Aloft – a one-stop gourmet grab and go food and beverage area. After a day of shopping, sightseeing or meetings, guests can unwind and enjoy live music at the brand’s signature W XYZ bar. Other recreational facilities include the Re:chargeM fitness center.

Additionally, the hotel’s location enables convenient access to four subway stations, each within a 400 to 600 meter walk, including the main Seoul Station in Yongsan District, which is a 43-minute express train ride from Incheon International Airport

As part of its grand opening, Aloft Seoul Myeongdong has launched an opening package starting from KRW 135,000 per night in an aloft room, including a welcome fresh juice.

In incentive news, Suncadia Resort in the United States’ Pacific Northwest is ramping up its group and meetings activities and offerings for 2017. 

Located 80 miles east of Seattle, the mountain resort has added new activities for groups including a Barnyard Warrior obstacle course that will test physical and tactical abilities- gladiator style, six holes of moonlit golf where glow-in-the-dark equipment and a blanket of stars guide the way, and tailored spa services. 

Here are the details:

Barnyard Warrior

Billed as a throwback to the American Gladiator TV show, groups will be able to test their resilience in a gladiatorial arena at the Nelson Farm by dodging, diving and dipping through various obstacles. 

$89 + tax per person

Glow Golf

The resort’s team of golf professionals will set up a six hole loop on the Rope Rider Golf Course for night time play, illuminating the holes, flag sticks, flags, and hazards and provide guests with glow balls and other LED equipment to decorate the carts.

Rate includes: golf cart and all glow golf equipment:

  • 24 - 36 players: $1,800 + tax
  • 37 - 60 players: $2,500 + tax
  • 60+ players: $3,500 + tax

Commencement of play would vary depending on the time of year. Minimum of 24 players required for activity. Activity must be booked at least two weeks in advance.

Rental of the Women’s Only Glades

james new york nomad

Finally, in New York meeting planners looking to book will have a new option in the form of the James New York NoMad, which just announced plans to open later this summer. 

The new hotel will have 4,500 square feet of meetings and events space, including a grand ballroom with space for functions of up to 250 people, as well as four private meeting rooms. 

The James New York NoMad will be set in a 20th century building at the corner of Madison Avenue and 29th Street, close to Madison Square Park, Gramercy Park and the Flatiron District. Ahead of the opening the 12-story Beaux Art building is undergoing a transformation under the direction of designer Thomas Juul-Hansen. When it opens, it will have 344 guestrooms, including 28 suites, each with design elements meant to attract “global nomads,” according to a statement from the property. 

John Meadow’s New York-based restaurant group, LDV Hospitality, which also operates the American Cut, Lugo Cucina Italiana, Diamond Horseshoe, Corso Coffee and Paramount Bar & Grill restaurants in New York, will oversee all food and beverage at the hotel. The signature restaurant and bar/lounge, Scarpetta, will serve soulful Italian food with pastas made in-house daily paired with locally sourced ingredients. 

Hotel guests will also be able to enjoy a comprehensive wellness program, as well as KEYPR keyless guest room entry, an in-room table and a custom mobile app for in-room dining and streaming TV shows and movies. 

An opening offer is providing 30 percent off rooms and suites.
