New event hotels in Nashville and New York, plus big news from the Colorado Convention Center are the meetings and events industry headlines to follow today.

The Westin Nashville Opens With 20,000 Square Feet of Event Space

Nashville has a new luxury hotel with a substantial meeting space offering. The Westin Nashville just opened with 20,000 square feet of adaptable event space, including pre-function areas and 12 meeting venues. The Vanderbilt Ballroom offers reception seating for up to 500 guests.

The hotel also has 453 guest rooms with custom artwork and design details inspired by the city and region, including three penthouse-style entertainment suites, three hospitality suites and eight executive suites. Other amenities include Decker & Dyer, a restaurant inspired by Vauxhall Gardens, a social gathering spot for 1800’s-era Nashville, a fitness center, indoor swimming pool and Westin Hotel’s New Balance Gear lending program. Later this fall, two restaurants will open: the L27 Rooftop Bar, billed as the highest rooftop bar in the region, and the Oak Steakhouse Nashville adjacent to the hotel. Also on tap for this fall is the Rhapsody Spa, which will offer nine treatment rooms, including a couple’s treatment room, three manicure/pedicure stations and a shared sauna.

Hotel 50 Bowery From Joie de Vivre Hotels

Hotel 50 Bowery, the first property for Joie de Vivre Hotels in New York City, is set to open this winter in Chinatown with a 5,000 square foot outdoor event space, the Atlantic Garden, named after the historic beer hall that occupied the site in the 1850s. The hotel will also have 1,900 square feet of indoor function space, with events catered by Chef Dale Talde. The Gallery, Boardroom and five suites will offer natural light, city views and modern furnishings for meetings and events.

The hotel’s 229 guest rooms will display artwork by local artists Lowell Boyers, Simone Shubuck and André Saraiva, and all rooms above the ninth floor will offer views of Lower Manhattan. The hotel will also have outdoor publicspaces on the second floor and rooftop. The Gallery, a permanent exhibit from the Museum of Chinese in America, will offer insights into the local area’s history from resident curator Herb Tam.

The three dining outlets by Chef Dale Talde will include a 220-seat, contemporary Asian restaurant, Rice & Gold, which will be located on the lobby level; Goldie’s, a cellar-level lounge serving dim-sum-style bites with live entertainment inspired by its opium-den theme; and a 21st-floor rooftop bar, named 21@50, which boasts sweeping views of the skyline. Talde has been a three-time cheftestant on Bravo’s Top Chef and released his first cookbook, Asian-American, in 2015.
