A big move in a new Kansas City convention center hotel, a new partner for the Conference Center of Las Vegas and a new California hotel for Hilton’s Curio Collection are the meetings industry headlines to watch today.

Kansas City Convention Center Hotel Moves Forward

Developers for a proposed convention hotel in downtown Kansas City have secured commitments for a loan and are under contract to purchase land for the project, The Kansas City Star reports. The 800-room Hyatt hotel would sit on the northwest corner of Baltimore Avenue and 16th Street, with a tentative opening date set for September 2019.

The hotel plans to have an approximately 25,000-square-foot master ballroom, a 12,000-square-foot junior ballroom and 18 breakout rooms, although the meeting space has been moved from the hotel’s main tower to above the 600-space parking garage to cut costs, The Kansas City Business Journal reports. The hotel also plans to have workout facilities, a pool, outdoor facilities, restaurants and bars.
