In convention center news, Nevada state legislators have voted to move forward with an expansion and renovation of the Las Vegas Convention Center

Approved during a special legislative session, the $1.4 billion project will add 600,000 square feet of new meeting space to the Convention Center, funded by a 0.5 percentage point increase in Clark County’s room tax. In a statement announcing the project, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) said that the expansion to the Las Vegas Convention Center District would allow the city to pursue new business opportunities while also growing the shows currently taking place there.

As part of the same legislative session, lawmakers also approved a $1.9 billion plan to build a 65,000 seat stadium that could house the University of Nevada, Las Vegas football team, as well as a potential professional football franchise and a variety of special events. Combined, the convention center expansion and stadium projects could create more than 14,000 jobs and an annual incremental economic impact of $1.43 billion, the LVCVA said.
