Oman Convention Center to Get New JW Marriott Hotel

In addition to a new convention center, Oman is poised to get a new luxury hotel for business travelers. The Oman Tourism Development Company (otherwise known as OMRAN) and Bank Sohar have signed a deal worth $104 million to finance the building of a 304-room JW Marriott Hotel Project in Muscat, Hotelier Middle East reports.

The new hotel will be part of the upcoming Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, itself part of the new Al-Irfan City project developed by Omran. Omran acting CEO Eng. Ali Rasbi told Hotelier Middle East that the agreement was part of a financial model in which private institutions work with the government on commercial projects.

The new deal follows an agreement made earlier in September with Bank Sohar to finance the development of a Crowne Plaza Hotel, which will also be located within the OCEC. When completed next year, the Convention Center is expected to have four hotels. The JW Marriott is slated to open in 2017.
