The Most Anticipated Event Hotel Openings of 2017

The Four Seasons Ten Trinity Square, London will offer plenty of meeting space when it opens this year near the Tower of London. 

A number of highly anticipated hotels are set to open in 2017 around the world, including new properties in Turkey, London, China, Cambodia and other destinations across the globe. Many will offer a variety of different meeting spaces, both small and large, casual and professional.

Banyan Tree, Bodrum is set to debut this year with a 70-key property on the Turkish Riviera in Yalikavak. The Singapore-based hospitality brand’s new resort will be surrounded by the Aegean Sea on three sides, overlooking a 1,500-foot private beach. Accommodations will include 14 spa suites with private pools, 30 “branded” suites, 40 standard rooms and several private residences. Guests will also have access to a private beach, along with the Banyan Tree spa, a kids club and an outdoor cinema. Banyan Tree, Bodrum is located approximately 30 miles from Bodrum Milas International Airport. Meeting and event space information is not yet available.

Also set to open in 2017 is Capella Shanghai, Jian Ye Li in the city’s Xuhui District. Originally built in the 1930s by the French real estate company Foncière et Immobiliere de Chine, the hotel will open in late spring and include 55 “shikumen” villas, 40 residences, The Capella Library, A French brasserie and the Auriga Spa. For planners, the property will hve several intimate event spaces. Guests staying at the Capella Shanghai will also be in close proximity to the Yu Gardens, Longhua Temple, Moganshan Road known for its contemporary art galleries and Nanjing Road, a retail hot-spot for both tourists and locals. 

Four Seasons Ten Trinity Square, London will offer plenty of meeting space when it opens this year near the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and the River Thames. The hotel will include three separate spaces for larger groups, including the 2185 sq. ft. UN Ballroom which accommodate 200 people, the 1485 sq. ft. Merchants Hall with room for 90, and the smaller UN Reception venue with 1033 sq. ft. and space for up to 70 guests. In addition, there are six other smaller function rooms designed to host more intimate gatherings. Along with the meeting spaces, the hotel will have 100 guestrooms, 11 of which will be suites. There will also be a day spa, an indoor pool and vitality pool, a nail salon and the first restaurant in the UK by Anne-Sophie Pic, currently the only French female chef to hold three Michelin stars.

Hotel Sensatori, Dubrovnik, owned by Karisma Hotels Adriatic, will open a five-star resort in Plat later this year. Situated just outside the old town of the “Pearl of the Adriatic”, the hotel was destroyed in the Homeland War, but was purchased by its new owners in early 2016 with a plan for redevelopment. No information is available yet regarding meeting and event spaces, however the hotel will have 550 rooms, including specially designed swim-up rooms, several restaurants, fitness facilities and spas.

Another highly anticipated hotel set to open in 2017 is Jumeirah Al Naseem, Dubai, marking the completion of Jumeirah Group’s mile-and-a-quarter development of Dubai’s coast. Of the hotel’s 387 rooms more than 100 are adjacent rooms, as well as 12 specifically designed family rooms, multiple Ocean Suites, two Presidential Suites and a Royal Suite located on the highest point of the hotel. Jumeirah Al Naseem is the youngest member of the Arabian Resort's family of hotels, giving it access to United Arab Emirates’ largest hotel events space, Madinat Conference Centre. The center incudes multiple spaces that can accommodate weddings, banquets, exhibitions, product launches, parties, and music concerts. The largest venue, Arena MPV, is 29,705 sq. ft. and can hold up to 4,500 people. There are also a number of other smaller event spaces which can accommodate smaller gatherings. Along with the event spaces, guests will also have access to more than ten restaurants and bars and a private beach club.

A spring opening is planned for Nobu Hotel Shoreditch, London. Owned by Robert de Niro and celebrity Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, the hotel is located at 10-50 Willow Street and will have 150 rooms. The five-story building’s design aims to mimic industrial Shoreditch with materials largely consisting of concrete and glass with cantilevering steel beams. The hotel will have multiple banqueting and meeting rooms, a fitness center and terraced gardens on the eastern side of the property. Additionally, a triple-height restaurant’s concept is being designed specifically for the hotel by Chef Nobu.

Once open, The Oberoi, Marrakech will be able to accommodate a variety of gatherings, including birthday parties, engagements, weddings and high profile business events. The hotel will have a fully equipped business center which will include a 1,200 sq. ft. function room and attached terrace, 14-seater boardroom and eight-seater and four-seater private meeting rooms suitable for board meetings and small seminars. Situated on a 25-acre plot of land approximately 20 minutes south of city center, The Oberoi, Marrakech will have 84 rooms, including villas with private pools and deluxe rooms with private terraces, as well as hammams, a fitness center and garden yoga. 

Slated to open in late spring, Park Hyatt, St. Kitts is located within the Christophe Harbour development on Banana Bay. The resort has 78 rooms and 48 suites, some of which offer private swimming pools and sundecks affording views of the neighboring Nevis Island. There is also a three-bedroom presidential villa with private infinity pool, a gym and game room. For both small and large gatherings, the resort has five private event spaces, a central presentation kitchen, an outdoor terrace and two event lawns.

The Ned, London will open this spring with 252 bedrooms ranging in size from the 55 sq. ft. Crash Pad rooms to the 114 sq. ft. Large Heritage rooms, as well as a variety of suites. The hotel’s decor was designed to mimic the style of the 1920s. Amenities include the private, members-only Ned Club, which includes a rooftop pool, a domed bar and the Canopy Bar & Restaurant. For meetings and events, there are six separate venues. The Tapestry Room, decorated with walnut paneling and crystal chandeliers, is 1,776 sq. ft. with enough room to accommodate 200 people, while the smaller Saloon can fit 120 at 1,345 sq. ft. The Drawing Room has a “club like” feel, with enough room for 80 people at 753 sq. ft. For smaller events, the 484 sq. ft. RWB Room can accommodate 40, the Rose Room fits 14 guests at 226 sq. ft., and the Wren Room is 280 sq. ft. and can hold up to 10 people. The Ned also has eight restaurants and bars and three separate spa areas. 

The Silo, Cape Town, South Africa has just opened with 28 guestrooms and a one bedroom penthouse overlooking the V&A Waterfront with views of Table Mountain. The hotel is situated in the grain elevator portion of the historic grain silo complex occupying six floors above what will become the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) this September. Along with The Silo’s emphasis on art and culture, amenities include a spa, take afternoon tea overlooking Table Mountain, rooftop dining area, a glass pool, access to the city’s fine dining and a gym, as well as multiple private meeting rooms. 

Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills is expected to open in June, complete with a three-story lobby, a rooftop pool, VIP cabanas and 170 guestrooms, each with an oversized balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows. For meetings and events, the hotel offers 6,300 sq. ft. of event space, including 4,700 sq. ft. of indoor areas, a rooftop lounge deck with views of Beverly Hills and Hollywood, meeting rooms equipped with A/V equipment access and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout all event venues. The largest meeting room can accommodate 2,945 people and there are also landscaped private gardens for more intimate outdoor events. Along with the gathering spaces, Michelin-starred Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten will make his West Coast debut at hotel’s restaurant, and a Spa by La Prairie is also in the works.
