Convention Space News: Meet the MGM National Harbor, AEG Back in Brisbane

Now Open: MGM National Harbor in Baltimore, Maryland

Maryland just got a big new venue in the form of the MGM National Harbor, a $1.4 billion integrated resort with 50,000 square feet of versatile meeting space. 

Housed in the MGM National Harbor Conference Center, the resort’s meeting venues range from ballrooms and meeting rooms to boardrooms and foyers overlooking The Conservatory. All meeting spaces incorporate sister properties’ names to highlight the resort’s connection to other top destinations: the 16,200-square-foot MGM Grand Ballroom with a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows and 6,000-square-foot outdoor terrace with spectacular views of the Potomac River; the 4,284-square-foot Bellagio Ballroom; three 1,838-square-foot meeting rooms – ARIA, Mandalay Bay and Beau Rivage; and two Mirage Boardrooms.

Tech amenities include a video wall, a 64x64 matrix router and 90-inch screens with video teleconferencing capability in the boardrooms. 

Other event locations at the 308-room resort and casino include a 3,000-seat Theater at MGM National Harbor with seven VIP suites, three of which can be turned into a combined party suite that can accommodate up to 200 people. Suite guests have access to a private theater entrance, VIP lounge with full-service bar and views of the stage and area below. Scalable chair and table designs allow for tailored set ups for banquets, receptions, speaking engagements, product launches and general sessions. Based on the configuration, the multi-use venue can accommodate groups from 500 to 4,000.

Overlooking the harbor with views of the Potomac River and the nation’s capital, Potomac Plaza incorporates a fountain and reflecting pool surrounded by greenery. This space can host outdoor events for groups of 50 to 500.  Other locations available for private events include the pool deck, dining outlets, lounges, and select suites.

For dining, the resort has offerings from a lineup of chefs including José Andrés, Marcus Samuelsson, and Bryan and Michael Voltaggio. Private and semi-private dining areas are available for groups between 12 and 40 people.

AEG Ogden Re-appointed as Managers of the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre

In Queensland, the government has re-appointed AEG Ogden as managers of the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre (BCEC) for a five year period starting July 1, 2017, along with a five-year option. 

AEG Ogden, which manages venues throughout Australia, Asia and the Middle East, has managed BCEC since its opening in 1995. Under AEG management the BCEC was voted The World’s Best Convention Centre by the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC) this past July. Over its 21 years of operation, the venue has hosted 18,000 events and 14 million guests delivering $3.87 billion in economic benefit to Queenslanders.
