Hawaii Convention Center Adds Bike Share Station

Getting to and from the Hawaii Convention Center (HCC) for residents and out-of-state meetings attendees became easier and “greener” with the installation of a self-service Biki Stop on the side of the building fronting Kapiolani Boulevard.

The state’s largest meetings facility, located at the entrance to Waikiki, is one of 100 stations across Oahu and will offer 15 Biki bikes for users. Biki is Honolulu’s new bikeshare program, managed by Bikeshare Hawaii, a not-for-profit 501(c) 3 organization, providing an alternative method of transportation that is convenient, affordable and environmentally friendly, convention center officials said.

“This initiative fits in nicely with AEG’s 1EARTH sustainability efforts to run the most efficient and environmentally friendly convention center possible,” said Teri Orton, HCC general manager, in a written release. “Biki is a welcome mode of transportation for those seeking healthier living and wanting to help eliminate congestion from Honolulu’s roadways.”

Interested users can log onto gobiki.org to sign up or purchase any one of the following passes before heading to a Biki Stop:

  • $15 monthly pass that provides unlimited 30-minute rides per month
  • $25 monthly pass that provides unlimited 60-minute rides per month
  • $20 Free Spirit pass that provides 300-minutes
  • $3.50 for a single ride (30 minutes of use)

A free mobile Biki app is also available for Android and Apple mobile device users. Biki users can sign up for the bikeshare system, purchase and/or reload all passes on the go.

Prague Congress Centre Embarks on Modernization Project

The Prague Congress Centre (PCC) is rolling out some significant changes, including an energy performance contracting (EPC) project by ENESA, an interior renovation and the addition of new A\V technology, a navigation system and a full-area fast Internet connection.

Sales and Marketing Director Lenka Žlebková said that the changes would be the venue’s main task until the beginning of November, when the ICCA Congress takes place in the PCC.

“We want to turn the Prague Congress Centre into a place where congresses and conferences with the highest demands on technology can be held,” Žlebková said. “We want the delegates of big congresses and conferences to be instantly and without difficulty able to find their way through the building with the help of a mobile phone application chi will also provide them with all necessary information on actual time.”

Interior renovations are underway in corridors and foyers, as well as in the two largest halls, the Congress Hall and Forum Hall, right now. The halls are receiving refurbished flooring, newly upholstered furniture, scenic and classical lighting, and new A/V technology. In the corridors, the ceilings and wood cladding are being refurbished, and most of the lights replaced with more economical LEDs. The toilets are also being renovated. On the ground floor near the main entrance a new information and registration desk is being added, and the venue’s façade is also being updated.

Additionally, the PCC is adding approximately 180 Wi-Fi points and 2,000 data slots throughout the building to improve connectivity. The venue is also launching a digital navigation system from POS Digital that includes internal and outdoor LCD screens and system management from one location.
