Americas: Why Meetings Industry Advocacy is Our Duty
by David Dubois, president & CEO, International Association of Exhibitions and Events
Advocacy. It’s a term we throw around in conversation, but how many of you really know the value and extent of it? Recent data from CEIR, the Center for Exhibition Industry Research, notes that in 2014 the exhibitions and events industry contributed more than $69.3 billion directly to the U.S. gross domestic product.
Advocacy initiatives, specifically the Exhibitions Mean Business and Meetings Mean Business campaigns, were created to make legislators on Capitol Hill, mainstream media throughout the world, and average citizens aware of the importance of the exhibitions and events industry to national and local economies.
Through the Exhibitions Mean Business campaign, Exhibitions Day was established to bring show organizers together with legislators to educate them about how vital exhibitions and trade shows are to the economy and the impact that particular legislation has on our industry.
