Americas: The DIY Movement’s Answer to CME Provider Meetings

Derek Warnick, MSPT, a continuing medical education specialist who now hangs his professional hat at a pharmaceutical company, has been to a lot of educational events for CME providers. He’s even presented at a few. But, as is the case with most large conferences, the ideas potential presenters propose often end up morphing into something quite different by the time the speaker hits the dais.

It’s cool to be asked to change an hour-long presentation into a five-minute, 20-slide Ignite session, or to find ways to combine your idea with those of four other presenters on a panel you now find yourself a part of, he says, “But wouldn’t it be nice to have a conference where people could talk about whatever they wanted to for as long as they wanted to using whatever format they wanted?”

Warnick had been fooling around with Google+ Hangouts for a while—he even live-streamed a session at an Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions a couple of years ago.
