In partnership with:

PassportThe trend towards budget hotels has contributed to a 9 percent drop in the overall cost of booking business travel, according to Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT).

Research from CWT’s Solution Group arm revealed declines in the amount businesses pay for air travel, hotel stays and car hire. On average, business trips cost £421, a fall of 8.7 percent says the Quarterly Barometer  – meeting room hire and associated services are not included in the CWT calculations.

The continuous shift towards budget and economy rate hotels has driven down average rates paid by 1.8 per cent, while car hire is 3.5 percent cheaper, says the report for Q2 of 2015. Average air fare has fallen by 8 percent, while train fares are also down by 3.5 points. The report also attributes the fall in price to ‘better booking behaviour’ with a 41 percent increase in the number of trips booked more than 14 days in advance.
