UK: Skills Shortage Driving Events Revival

The skills shortage facing UK employers is having a beneficial effect on the meetings and events sector.

Efforts to increase employee engagement and upskill workforces have driven strong performances at agencies such as KDM Events, says commercial director Nicky Whyman.

Richmond and Staffordshire-based KDM is expecting between 25 and 30 per cent growth on its £1.8 million 2014 turnover, which itself was a fifth up on the previous year. The agency has also added new staff, with the recruitment of sales executive Katie Janev and sales administrator Mehreen Shabbir to take its number of full time employees to 25.

Whyman said: “The market has changed, and clients are certainly more generous with their budgets. Motivation and reward is back on the agenda for the majority of corporates, especially as there is a lack of talent. They are looking for their events and communications to bring on board better individuals, to train them and to reward them.”
