UK: Planners Debate Data Privacy Changes and Contracting

Corporate planners heard about the implications of new European regulations on data privacy and were given tips on drawing up contracts at the Event Marketing Association's (EMA) latest discussion forum.

EMA, which comprises of in-house and corporate planners, met at the Dorchester Hotel for a panel discussion entitled "Demystifying contracts and empowering your negotiations."

The panel, hosted by Paul Brown, commercial project director at UBM, the panel was made up of lawyer Jeroen Lub, a partner at Osborne Clarke, and John Melling, executive director of the EMEA event management group at Goldman Sachs. They shared insight on negotiating contracts and understanding the commercial impacts around data security, intellectual property and contract cancellation.

The panel discussion kicked off with a breakdown of framework agreements.

Jeroen Lub said: "I see it a lot when it goes wrong, the last thing you want is to ruin your relationship with the supplier. You get better terms if you negotiate an overarching agreement."
