UK: London named Europe's most expensive city

London has become Europe's most expensive capital to stay in, after hotel prices in the city rose by 10.7 per cent in 12 months.

New research by HRS, The Hotel Solutions Provider, revealed London has knocked Paris and Copenhagen off the top spots, with its average room rates of £129.14 trumping their rates of £117 per room (€149).

While London also remains the most expensive UK city for its average rate per night, Edinburgh has become the second most expensive in the UK. Average room rates have increased by almost 13 per cent to £97.40 compared with the second quarter of 2013, while in Cardiff, the average rate rose by 14.89 per cent to £79.12.

For those after a bargain, the cheapest rooms can be found in Liverpool, which saw a decrease in room rates of more than 2 per cent compared to Q2 2013, with average rates totalling £72.51 per night.
