The 50-day festival, which ran from 9 June to 22 July, involved 424 separate business events, attracting a total of 75,000 delegates.

According to the latest data from HotStats, occupancy in the city increased by 4.3 percentage points to 77.7 per cent, while the average room rate achieved was £74.61 (up by 4.4 per cent). Meanwhile, total gross operating profit per room surged by 13.2 per cent.

The IFB drew to a close on Tuesday, with finale gala dinner at ACC Liverpool. 138 other venues were used for events during the period, attended by senior business figures and politicians, including Prime Minister David Cameron, George Osborne, Nick Clegg and Vince Cable.
