UK: Green Light for Aberdeen's New £333M Conference Centre

Plans for a new £333 million conference centre hub in Aberdeen have been given the green light by the city council.

Councillors have approved the revised proposals for the new Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre (AECC) development, which will include a conference centre and two hotels along with an energy centre and a biodegradable waste plant.

It will be built by Aberdeen City Council's development partner, Henry Boot Developments, on the site of the Rowett Institute in Dyce.

In a new addition to the original plans, the energy centre will provide enough electricity, heating and cooling for the entire site, including a proposed business park, while the anaerobic digestion plant will generate income by feeding biomethane into the gas grid. Councillors also hope the two hotels, one four-star and the other 3.5 star, with a total of up to 350 rooms, will provide income to offset the cost of the scheme.
