UK: Government Reveals New Events Blueprint




Leading figures from the events industry will be invited to sit on a new Business Visits & Events Board to help represent the sector within government, the Department for Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) has announced.

The new board is a key highlight of the department’s ‘cross-governmental strategy’ drawn up in response to engagement with the industry which began in late 2014, and will comprise of industry representation with government departments and agencies. It will be tasked with identifying business opportunities and to win more events for the UK.

Issues raised by respondents included a lack of co-ordination at government level; support beyond ministerial letters, such as hosting delegations and involvement in bid presentations; a lack of venues capable of hosting the largest trade fairs under one roof and ‘congress’ venues; the quality of the UK’s welcome – including a possible ‘delegate lane’ for arrivals.
