UK: Events Apprenticeships to be Up and Running "Within a Year"

The event industry's first official apprenticeship scheme will be up and running "within a year" according to organisers.

The government-backed trailblazer apprenticeship scheme, designed to offer the next generation of event planners a new standardised route into events, was given the green light by skills and equalities minister Nick Boles in March this year.

It was kickstarted yesterday (June 9) with the inaugural meeting of an industry group chaired by Mark Riches, MD of First Protocol. The group, set up to design the employer-led initiative to suit the sector's varied needs, met at London & Partners’ head office to launch the development of the apprenticeship standard.

Sarah Wright, director of Sarah Wright Consulting, has helped drive the scheme and is acting as an adviser to the group.

She said: “We want to have the first apprentices in jobs within a year. We’ve been told that’s ambitious, but I’m really excited about bringing new talent into the industry and diversifying the talent pool.”
