UK: Event Spend Growth at its Strongest for a Year

More companies are increasing their event budgets than at any point in the past year, new data from the Institute of Practicioners in Advertising (IPA) has revealed.

Figures from the IPA’s 2015 Q2 Bellwether report indicate a continued upward trend in spend on business events and conferences among the 300 UK corporates surveyed, with a net figure of 7.4 per cent of companies revising budgets upwards, a three-quarter high. The net figure is arrived at by subtracting those who say event spend has fallen from those who say it has increased.

Indeed, events is the strongest performing category in the marketing sector, with spend on internet and sales promotions registering net increases of 6.8 and 6 per cent respectively, the next best performing.

Report author Paul Smith, a senior economist at financial information specialist Markit, said: “At the headline level, the Bellwether for Q2 2015 provided further positive news on marketing activity in the UK, with growth being extended to just short of three years and at a rate that remained historically strong.
