UK: Dundee Announces £60m Business Tourism Boost

Dundee & Angus saw a £60 million boost to the local economy from business tourism in 2014.

The latest economic impact figures from Dundee & Angus Convention Bureau reveal a £4m increase on 2013, the result of increased high profile conferences and events held in the area throughout the past year.

More than 225,000 national and international delegates visited the region in 2014 to attend conferences held in and around the city, resulting in a combined expenditure of more than £11.8 million.

Karen Tocher, business tourism manager of Dundee & Angus Convention Bureau, said: “Business tourism is hugely important to the local economy of Dundee and Angus and this is further affirmed by the 2014 figures.

“Direct delegate spending generated almost £12m for the region, accounting for 12 per cent of the total visitor expenditure during 2014.

When the bureau was set up in 1998, it recorded fewer than 10,000 UK delegates and just 32 individuals from overseas.
