UK: Comms Experts Say Events Still Necessary in Digital Age




The virtual age needs face to face events and experiences more than ever, according to a panel of communications and media experts from the Financial Times and Ernst & Young. 

The panel at the Eventopedia Discovery Event said that Twitter Q&As, webinars and other online learning and networking tools are increasingly useful, but events create unique content and images.

Keynote speaker Mandy Sharp, founder and MD of PR agency Tin Man Communications, took the 130-strong audience of event, marketing and communications professionals through her golden rules for successful PR events. 

She said: “PR and event professionals need to ensure the content is creative and relevant to up their return on investment. It’s the story that makes the event special and most importantly memorable.”

Meanwhile, Financial Times senior communications manager Harriet Mallinson said event professionals needed to ensure their news delivery was as current as possible for the media, with press releases dying and being replaced by blogs.
