Oxford Invests $250 Million in Conference Facilities

More than $253 million has been invested in Oxford’s conferencing facilities over the past five years, according to figures released by Conference Oxford.

It was also announced that a further $74 million in new developments will be opening in the coming years.

Included among the recent developments is an $119-million refurbishment of the newly named Weston Library at the Bodleian. Renovation work began in 2011 and the building was officially opened in March of this year. The Weston Library now includes a 2,801-square-foot hall for dining or drinks, a lecture theater seating 117 and a rooftop terrace with of the city – all of which can be hired for conferences and events.

As IMR partner MeetPie notes, the Thatcher Business Education Centre at Saïd Business School, which opened in 2012, also helps attract business events. The £28 million new development includes three lecture theatres, multiple seminar rooms, and dining facilities for up to 250 delegates.

Significant developments in Oxford colleges have also enhanced the options for conference organisers in the city. Pembroke College unveiled the new Rokos Quad in 2013; a £30m development including 100 new en suite bedrooms and a 170 seat lecture theatre.

Over $74 million worth of developments across the city have also been announced to improve Oxford’s offerings over the coming years.
