UK venue group joins global carbon measurement scheme

One of the UK’s leading independent provider of training, meeting and conference space, etc.venues, is the first chain of dedicated training properties to sign up to The Hotel Carbon Index Company’s Carepar service, which measures carbon emissions associated with business meetings, training, events and overnight hotel stays.
etc.venues has a portfolio of seven properties (six in London and one in Birmingham), of which six will go through the Carepar process.
The venue group’s inclusion of its venues in the Carepar programme will enable  training and event specifiers and their businesses to understand the emissions involved in their training, conferences and events, and demonstrate their commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

etc.venues inclusion on the Carepar programme will strengthen its coporate social responsibility credentials, which currently include winning The National Recycling Award in late 2007 and being accredited in the top 100 UK  Investors in  People companies for the sixth year in a row.
Carepar has been widely embraced by the hotel and venue industry in the UK, Europe and in the US.
“We are very aware of the need to track emissions for our venues and definitely think that our clients should have a recognisable and trusted standard they can benchmark from,” said etc.venues’ central operations and projects manager Franck Rosello.

“As one of the innovators in the sector we are glad to be the first training chain to work with Carepar.  Measurement of carbon emissions has been possible in the airline and ground transport sector for some years, and we encourage more venues to sign up so that holistic measurement can take place for the business travel sector.”
Commenting on the venue group joining Carepar, the carbon measurement service’s managing director, Peter Ducker, said: “It is gratifying to see the focus that etc.venues is placing on the measurement of emissions. The process will enable it to not only look at its emissions, but also, in the longer term, look at improvements that can be made, which will help to strengthen its green credentials further.”
