UK: Tourism Minister Supports Event Industry's Target of £50 Billion in Growth
Tourism minister Helen Grant has vowed to back the industry in its efforts to be worth almost £50 billion by 2020.
Grant also praised the efforts of National Events Month, which is drawing to a close following a month of campaigning on behalf of the UK events industry.
She said: “The UK events industry contributes a huge amount to our economy and the sector is predicted to be worth £48.8 billion by 2020. Britain for Events has done a tremendous job throughout National Events Month, championing the UK as a great place to host international events and I look forward to working with all those in the industry to build on the success achieved and make sure its growth potential is reached."
The minister’s support was the latest in a series of endorsements for the campaign by senior members of government including prime minister David Cameron, deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, Welsh business minister Edwina Hart and Scottish tourism minister Fergus Ewing.
