UK: Titanic Quarter Reveals Plans for New Belfast Exhibition Centre

Belfast's Titanic Quarter has revealed plans to develop a new Titanic Exhibition Centre which would be the city's largest dedicated exhibition venue.

The group is seeking planning permission for a 6,000 sqm temporary building on Queen’s Road, opposite the Titanic Studios where hit fantasy series Game of Thrones is filmed, to stage major public exhibitions and trade shows by autumn 2015.

Its longer-term plan is to develop a purpose-built, permanent venue to regularly host major international events for up to 20,000 visitors.

David Gavaghan, Titanic Quarter’s CEO, said Glasgow’s Scottish Exhibition & Conference Centre (SECC) had been an inspiration for the scheme.

“Over the last few years Titanic Quarter has been approached by a number of exhibition organisers from within and without Northern Ireland to consider developing a dedicated Titanic Exhibition Centre," he said.

“With strong initial interest already secured, including provisional bookings, we believe this is an opportune time to develop a new space in central Belfast that will allow the city to market itself as a destination for local and international consumer, lifestyle and trade events."
