UK: Prime Minister David Cameron Pledges to Support National Events Month
Prime Minister David Cameron has pledged further support for the events industry.
In a letter to the Britain for Events campaign, which is currently operating National Events Month, Mr Cameron: “… (wished it) every success for National Events Month,” and committed further support for the industry.
The Prime Minister also credited the sector’s “… significant contribution to the economy …” and advised that he was working with Department of Culture Media & Sport and UK Trade & investment to support the industry even further.
According to last year’s UK Economic Impact Study, published by Meeting Professionals International, the nation’s meetings industry contributes £58.4bn towards the UK’s gross domestic product.
The National Events Month campaign has also attracted support from Deputy Prime Minister and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg, who was briefed on the campaign’s specifics by Kathleen Warden, director of conference sales at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, during his party’s annual conference in Glasgow.
