UK: Grass Roots to Copy WPP's "Horizontality" Business Model

richard bandellGrass Roots Group hopes to imitate the success of major shareholder WPP by adopting the advertising giant’s 'horizontality' business model.

WPP is a 46 per cent shareholder in Grass Roots and Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO of WPP, spoke recently at the company’s International Leadership Conference.

He said: "The most important thing in any organisation is getting people to share information.  You need organisational simplicity with global coordination supporting local focus.

"At WPP we call this 'horizontality'. A real example of this is reflected in our client leaders who bring together and coordinate talent and resources from across our different businesses to ensure that clients get exactly what they need. It is exciting to see Grass Roots adopting the same approach within its business, and also as part of WPP."

Following a restructure, Grass Roots has grouped its various businesses into four key specialist divisions: Grass Roots Meetings & Events, Grass Roots Employee Solutions, Grass Roots Customer Engagement and Grass Roots Consumer Promotions and Incentives.
