UK: Event to Shine Light on Mental Health in Meetings Industry
Industry figures are set to shine the spotlight on the issue of mental health and stress in the events sector.
Freelance event planner Nikki Sandhu is hosting A Beautiful Mind, a fundraising dinner and dance in aid of the Matt Palmer Trust; and hopes she can raise awareness of mental health wellbeing within the industry. The evening has been planned by Sandhu following the death of two industry friends, Matt Palmer and Jacqui Rice, both of whom took their own lives.
Sandhu said: “Nobody wants to be the first to say ‘I think that person is struggling’. It’s time to raise awareness, and I want to make sure that this is no longer seen as a taboo subject. People should not suffer in silence and feel they are a failure in the industry; we should encourage a work/life balance.”
A recent report by job search site CareerCast in the US rated event co-ordinator as the fifth most pressurised profession, behind military personnel, firefighters and airline pilots.
