UK: Event Expenditure Slows As Optimism Cools, Say Leading Economists

Event Expenditure 2014The rate of increase in event expenditure has slowed down, according to new data from the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising.

The latest IPA Bellwether Report, which analysed marketing budgets during Q4 of 2014, reveals a 2.4 per cent average increase in events expenditure. Previous reports found event spend was up by 8 per cent in each of the previous two quarters and six per cent in the first quarter of 2014.

Chris Williamson, chief economist at Markit, and the IPA Bellwether Report author said: “We expect that 2014 will prove to have been the high-water mark in terms of growth in the current upturn.”

The survey of 300 UK marketing professionals revealed a net balance of 6.1 per cent of companies registering an increase in overall budgets during Q4 2014, down from 12.6 per cent in Q3 2014 and its lowest since Q1 2013.
