UK: Centre settles over Christian marriage conference row

The Queen Elizabeth II Centre has reached a settlement with Christian Concern after it cancelled the campaigning group's conference on marriage the night before it was due to take place.

'One Man, One Woman - Making the case for marriage for the good of society' was due to be held on 23 May 2012, but the Westminster venue called it off amid fears the group’s views were inappropriate for a Government-owned venue.

The centre and Eric Pickles, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, the government department responsible for the QEII Centre, have now reached a deal over the cancelled convention.

A joint statement released by the parties read: "The centre regrets that its decision to cancel the contract caused Christian Concern, as well as its invited speakers and delegates, disappointment and inconvenience.

"The parties uphold the rights and freedoms of other members of society based on the principles of a democratic society.
