UK: Bournemouth's £200m Economic Boost

BH Live, the operator of the Bournemouth International Centre has generated business worth more than £200 million for the region’s economy in five years.

Formed in 2010 to secure the future of Bournemouth’s venues and leisure centres, BH Live has extended its reach to operate venues, leisure centres, cafés and bars in Poole, Portsmouth, Oxford and London.

BH Live says the enterprise has brought in £204m through business tourism.

CEO Peter Gunn said: “In 2010, Bournemouth Borough Council embarked on a plan to secure its facilities for local residents and visitors in the face of financial challenges. As a social enterprise, we were in a position to apply commercial principles with a social conscience business model and began running the venues in partnership with Bournemouth Borough Council. This has succeeded in getting more people into physical activity and engaging in cultural events, while continuing to generate economic benefit for the region.”
