UK: Barclays Head of Events Warns Corporates Could Get Left Behind

Corporate event organisers need to adopt an external focus or be left behind by the industry, a senior planner has said.

Clare Moses, head of events, personal and corporate banking at Barclays, says that engaging with membership organisations will enhance innovation and creativity. Last week, Moses was announced as the latest council member of the Event Marketing Association (EMA) – the group exclusively for corporate and in house planners, and she admits her peers have traditionally been very ‘cloak and dagger’ about their activities.

“I used to be very internally focused and had limited time to bring that (outside engagement) in,” she said. “One of the main things we needed to do better was to become linked in to the market, we need to have an external focus to drive innovation. We are so busy servicing internal stakeholders that we get too drawn into it and we forget that there is a whole world of events out there moving very fast.
