UBM Will Sell International Confex to MashSeptember 19, 2013 By: CAT Publications
UBM Live is set to sell trade show International Confex to events industry publisher Mash Media Group for an undisclosed sum.
A full announcement is expected to be made this week, but it is expected to detail the sale of the trade show. The other elements of UBM's Confex portfolio, directory and venue-finding site Venuefinder.com/blue&green, will remain with UBM.
The sale follows concerns raised this year by some exhibitors about dwindling visitor attendance at the show, which moved from Earls Court to London ExCeL in 2012. In recent years the show has seen a high turnover of personnel at UBM. Former Confex Group portfolio director Duncan Reid left UBM Live in August 2010, with his replacement Jonny Sullens quitting the role in August 2012, before James Samuel took the helm.
The trade show purchase will be Mash Media Group's second in as many years in this sector. In June 2012 it purchased The Event Production Show from Ocean Media Group, alongsidethe Event Production Awards, Access All Areas magazine, and directory The White Book.
