Thousands sample IT giant's India experience

IBM India recently staged the largest live communication event in its history - a 'town hall' experience for 19,000 of the global IT giant's employees in India, including 10,000 in Bangalore and 9,000 linked by satellite at sites in Pune, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Joining IBM staff was a select group of international investors, clients, government officials, policy makers and leading academic experts, while 340,000 IBM employees in more than 170 countries accessed the event via the company's intranet.

The unprecedented scale of the event confirms India's growing significance as a key international market with vast potential and capability both in the global economy and for IBM. The event captured the unique role IBM can play in today's globally integrated economy as the world's largest IT company.

IBM chairman and chief executive officer Sam Palmisano led the event in Bangalore, which included a presentation from the President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Bollywood star Dia Mirza acted as MC, and other event highlights included recognition of prominent individuals from Indian business and society whose innovative contributions have made a positive impact on the world.

Jack Morton Worldwide, the global experiential marketing agency, produced the event with a team drawn from the US, UK, Australia and India. Although this is the largest gathering the agency has produced for IBM, Jack Morton has worked with IBM on internal and customer events for nearly 15 years. Incredibly, from initial briefing to final delivery, the event took just 76 days to execute.

Lois Jacobs, Jack Morton Worldwide president, international, said: "India is profoundly important to us and our clients. In India there is a great appreciation of the power of experiential marketing and growing demand for what we do. We are delighted to have worked with IBM to create such an ambitious event in one of the world's fastest growing markets."
