The latest in virtual world technology hits London

A number of innovative virtual world platforms and technologies will be launched or previewed at next week's inaugural Virtual Worlds Forum Europe event in London. The technology, creativity and innovation on display could have a significant impact on events as we know them in the future. Increasingly popular virtual world Second Life has already been used to hold events by companies such as IBM.

Making its European debut at the event will be AreaE's Metaplace.com, a software architecture designed to simplify the process of developing applications for Virtual Worlds. Metaplace, launched recently by former Sony chief creative officer Raph Koster, will be demonstrated during a session on the Business Model Panel.

Virtual Worlds Forum Europe is also giving delegates the chance to quiz David Erixon, who wil be on the Convergence/Mobile Panel, the brains behind Vodafone's recently launched InsideOut, a service that lets you call and text between Second Life and the real world. With InsideOut, you can text friends to meet you on Second Life before you log-in, or make and receive real voice calls from wherever you like on the virtual island. InsideOut is scheduled to fully launch on 30 November.

Finally, Virtual Worlds Forum Europe will also showcase five new virtual worlds – one from from Germany, China, Israel, and two from the UK – as part of the New World Showcase demonstration.

"With the countdown to the event now fully underway, the excitement here is palpable,” said Sasha Frieze, Virtual Worlds Forum Europe conference director. “We are delighted that so many leading virtual world companies and organisations have decided to use the event to debut, preview and showcase so many innovative products and services, ideal for brands and corporations to harness the power of 3D worlds."

Virtual Worlds Forum Europe 2007 takes place on 24-25 October in Central London with workshops on the 23 and 26 of the month. For more details, visit www.virtualworldsforum.com
