Silver Sturgeon returns wow factor to the Thames




Capitalising on the increasing popularity of the River Thames for events, The Silver Fleet – Woods River Cruises has taken floating venues to another level following the makeover of its flagship vessel, the Silver Sturgeon.

Already well-used for various events, from conferences to product launches, the Silver Sturgeon’s new look should grow this business considerably. In fact, few people would expect the transformation it has undergone into what could arguably described as the first Thames cruise liner.

EVENTS:review was invited on board recently and was astonished by the sleek, chic, contemporary interior, five-star finishing and sense of space and light, which combine to create a relaxing, luxuriant ambience that few venues on dry land can match. From the interior adorned with warm natural colours, featuring oval low profile leather booth seating and dramatic wood marquetry created by award winning fashion designer Tristan Webber, up the curvaceous glass grand staircase to the new 150 square metre main deck, the overall effect is stunning.

BBC Music Magazine held its annual awards ceremony on the Silver Sturgeon in April, soon after it was refurbished, and was equally impressed.

"The Silver Sturgeon proved to be an ideal venue for the BBC Music Magazine Awards held in April this year,” said one of the organisers of the event Tabitha Morton. “The refurbishment is stunning – very stylish, superb quality, a fantastic use of the space, and the sundeck was a wonderful way for our guests to enjoy their champagne.”

For the boat’s recent official re-launch party for the events industry, Silver Fleet – Woods River Cruises teamed up with royal jewellers Garrad as part of its Diamond Anniversary and gave away a Diamond Pave Wings Pendant Necklace to one lucky winner on the night. There will be a second draw at the end of the year for a second Wings Pendant Necklace to make one person’s New Years Eve something to remember.

The evening also was showcasing the company’s new website (www.silverfleet.co.uk) which has been completely redesigned to fit the boat’s new image.

The company’s fleet of vessels is able to accommodate both large and small bookings – subject to the style of food service: 40 – 90 guests aboard the Silver Dolphin, 65 – 230 on the Silver Barracuda, and 170 – 586 on the Silver Sturgeon.

In addition, Silver Fleet’s event team offers a bespoke design service to each client from flowers, theming, photography, DJ’s, gifts, table decorations, ice sculptures, magicians, caricaturists, vodka luges to chocolate fountains.
