New hotel gives greater flexibility at NEC Birmingham

The transformation of the NEC Group’s former head office into three-star hotel rooms has been marked with the recent official opening of the new Ramada Encore Hotel at the NEC, Birmingham.

Developed by Carillion and joint-venture partner New World Leisure, the 166-bedroom hotel was officially opened by the Mayor of Solihull, councilor David Bell on Thursday 12 March.

Formerly home to the NEC Group’s central offices, NEC House was sold to Carillion in 2008, with the 400 staff based in the building transferred to new offices above the NEC itself.

“The addition of another hotel at the NEC provides our visitors, exhibitors and event organisers with increased choice on site, helping to reinforce our position as the venue of choice for our customers,” said NEC managing director Kathryn James.

“The work which Carillion and New World Leisure have undertaken in the redevelopment and transformation of this building from office space to a leading-edge hotel is amazing, and I would like to wish them the best of luck with this new venture.”

The hotel will benefit from eight meeting and event rooms, four accessible rooms, the Hub lounge, bar and restaurant, free bedroom internet access and public area wi-fi access, as well as ample free parking.
