Manchester City announces 38% rise in conference and event revenue

Premiership football club Manchester City, recently announced a rise in operating profits of 46%, this was fuelled, claimed chairman John Wardle, in no small part by a 38% rise in conference activity.

So while statistics released by the British Association of Conference Destinations may show that the conference industry is facing a time of upheaval, there are clearly some areas that are still performing well.

“Our 38% increase in activity is the result of a number of factors,” said Angela Hodson conference and events sales manager for the City of Manchester Stadium (CoMS). “We have raised our reputation and increased awareness of the venue, through a range of activities, from PR to a greater number of internally organised special events, such as special features for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Valentine’s Day.”

Hodson also cites an increase in the Christmas Market, which has gone from 6,000 people in 2004 to 10,000 in 2005. “We have wide cross section of events currently being held at the stadium including: meetings; conferences; exhibitions; product launches; training sessions; weddings and special themed events.

“While a lot of business is coming from the local community, Government bodies and emergency services, we are also seeing a number of companies on a national scale that are attracted to this unique and special venue,” says Hodson.

The CoMS offers seven versatile functions suites and 71 executive boxes catering from 1-1200 people. “We have built up a quality reputation for food and service, and our menus are particularly innovative,” continues Hodson. “The stadium offers a special experience for the organiser and delegate in a unique environment, with suites overlooking the pitch.”
