ISES UK elects first female president for a decade

Visit London’s Zanine Adams has been named president elect of the UK Chapter of the International Special Event Society (ISES) for the 2009-2010 term. She will be the first female president for the UK chapter for more than a decade.

Adams, who is UK sales manager and head of event solutions at the UK capital’s marketing body Visit London, will take up the role at the beginning of July 2009.

She has been at Visit London for more than three and a half years, where her role has been to drive a range of meetings, congresses and incentive travel events to the UK capital. As part of her role, Adams also heads up Visit London’s Event Solutions offer, which is a proactive team that provides free and impartial London knowledge and advice to business and events organisers wanting to “unlock London”.

Adams has already worked closely with ISES on a number of strategic networking events between ISES and Visit London and served as VP of marketing for 2 years on the ISES UK board.

Adams’ role as president will mean she will be responsible for delivering the UK chapters vision for the next year, as well as further membership growth, a compelling events and educational programme and the building of relationships between the industry and the association globally. Adams will also chair ISES UK board meetings and host ISES events.

“We are delighted that Zanine has accepted this position,” said current ISES president Will Boome. “Her leadership skills and international contacts within the events industry will be a huge asset to the UK ISES Chapter. Zanine’s strategic focus will help the chapter continue to grow its reputation as a leading industry body.

Commenting on the appointment, Adams said: “I’m very excited about taking on this new role. These are challenging times for the events industry and I am eager to not only help support the ISES community but to also ‘bang the industry drum’ and make sure that the events industry is recognised as the important industry that it is.

“I want ISES to develop a tighter and more supportive community. We have the world’s biggest event coming to London in 2012 and, therefore, this is the time for the industry to step forward, work together and show global businesses that events are still the most effective way of communicating and engaging stakeholders.”
