Inaugural Main Event Scotland deemed a great success

The best of Scotland’s event community descended upon Glasgow’s SECC on the 28th February 2008 for the inaugural The Main Event; becoming the highest quality one-day regional show for event organisers to date.

The first show designed to offer inspiration to buyers that produce and manage events in Scotland received the thumbs up from exhibitors.

The Main Events took place on 28 February at Glasgow’s SECC, with exhibitors ranging from unique venues such as House for Art Lovers designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Winton House, built in the 15th century, which has housed guests such as Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie, to catering companies such as Sodexo Prestige and Wilde Thyme, and cutting-edge lighting, staging and production from the likes of Finix Productions and 88 Events.

Commenting on the show, Ross Robertson from Field and Lawn said: “It was a vibrant and exciting event, which resulted in good quality leads and had a great atmosphere. Being a small industry it is important to meet with other competitors, suppliers and potential customers.”

Meanwhile, Philip Hughes from The Ice Box said: “We were really busy and had queues! We have taken orders from some major venues and felt that the show had a really good atmosphere and a genuinely positive vibe. We will definitely exhibit again next year”.

The one-day show included a Main Event Bar and a Main Event Theatre, which allowed buyers of all levels to hear, learn and ask questions. There was also entertainment throughout the day from The Entertainment Company, which showcased a variety of contemporary and classic acts, a live ice carving from Ice Box and fresh oysters were served around the show.

This was the first show to be organised by QD Events, a business formed in April 2007 out of what was a joint venture between Clarion Events Scotland and the SECC. Managing director Fran McIntyre , who directed the show, said: “We were delighted with the success as a launch show and have had fantastic feedback from exhibitors and visitors alike who have all expressed interest in attending next year.”
