Events industry impressed by new Dorset venue

If feedback from key players in conferences and meetings is anything to go by, the Portland Spa Conference & Banqueting Centre should be a welcome addition to the UK’s venue portfolio.

“The attention to detail is unbelievable,” said Ian Denny, managing director Opex International, a division one of the UK’s biggest event services companies. “Everything has been thought through to ensure maximum delegate comfort and ease.”

Meanwhile, managing director of event organiser CEM Group, said the venue will have the ability to compete at the highest level, adding: “As a national event organising business based in Dorset, it is refreshing and a relief that at last the area is capable of offering first class conference and banqueting facilities.”

The official opening of the Portland Spa Conference & Banqueting Centre is now just weeks away and its managing director Andrew Coupe has been delighted to receive so much praise for the venue, even before it has held its first event.

“It is testament to the unique offering we have created here on Portland that recognised industry figures have already made it a priority to stay ahead in this extremely competitive industry by visiting our facilities even during the construction phase,” he said. “Their response to what we have created has been immensely positive and our business plan to attract around 80,000 delegates a year remains on track. This will be a tremendous fillip to the Island of Portland and all our local suppliers and partners.”

On visiting the venue, there’s no surprise at the industry response. There are several conference suites that can be used in isolation or together to create the required space, atmosphere and layout for a variety of events. And with the Portland Spa Restaurant, the Cove Lounge café/bar, an impressive executive boardroom comprising the latest electronic presentation equipment, a secluded garden courtyard for up to 300 delegates and a grand art deco entrance, the Portland Spa Conference & Banqueting Centre adds up to a high-quality facility in a striking location.

It’s understandable, therefore, that interest has not only come in the form of praise, but also through advance business.

“We have already taken a number of bookings from all manner of local and national businesses to host a variety of events that truly reflect how flexible our facilities are,” said Caroline Dale, the venue’s manager. “It is also no surprise that many brides are now looking to use our facilities to host their wedding reception.”
