Edinburgh exceeds business tourism targets

Edinburgh Convention Bureau (ECB) has assisted in winning events that will boost the local economy by £37.9 million. After six months this is ahead of its target to attract conferences worth £71.7 million to the local economy for this year. In fact the current success rate means ECB could be in line to more than double its targeted increase.

Sue Stuart, chief executive of ECB, said: “Our success to date reflects the commitment and hard work of a professional and dedicated team. In the highly competitive business tourism sector, Edinburgh remains a globally attractive destination. As more and more cities worldwide realise the potential benefits involved, we have to constantly assess what we can do to improve our service and facilities to retain our reputation and position in the market place. Standing still is not an option, which is why an infrastructure audit is being undertaken along with a wider look at how Edinburgh is marketed.”
