CSR climbs the agenda at London venue company

EC&O Venues, which won two industry awards in 2006 for its venues’ efforts in the fields of sustainability and corporate social responsibility, has published its Social, Environmental and Ethical Report (SEER) 2007. Incorporating the latest available figures for recycling and energy efficiency, the report also deals with the company’s commitment to the communities in which it operates, its charity policies and activities and the culture it has developed to ensure understanding of the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR) among its people.

Jon Sellins, group venues director at EC&O Venues, believes that no company – in the exhibition industry and outside it – can afford to ignore what CSR means to business and the benefits that can accrue from a clear statement of intent.

“At the end of the first decade of the 21st century, CSR has become a business necessity,” he said. “The Government is preparing to impose levels of sustainability, trading partners are starting to make their choices on the basis of CSR credentials and consumers increasingly purchase according to ethical, sustainable and environmentally-friendly criteria. Perhaps more importantly, no-one wants to work for a company that does not recognise how vital these issues are.

"The events industry is rapidly acknowledging the importance of elements of the CSR whole – particularly sustainability and energy efficiency – which impact all areas of the business, from operating costs to visitor numbers. As society becomes greener and business is pressured to be more transparent and accountable on these issues, it is companies with clear policies who will reap the benefits."

The EC&O Venues SEER is available as a pdf to download from the company’s website www.eco.co.uk. A small number of copies have been printed on sustainable paper stock and can be requested from the EC&O Venues press office on 020 7370 8113.
